So we took a break from our Letters of the Month the other day in order to practice numbers as well. I found a simple number activity on Pinterest from http://www.littlelearningclub.com and we gave it a try.
- Muffin Tin
- Cupcake Wrappers
- Cereal or Favorite Snack
I had originally planned to use Cheerios for this activity but when I went to get everything out I realized that we were all out. Oops, #momfail. So we used Teddy Grahams instead because that is what I had on hand. This was a free to me activity as we already had all the necessary supplies. After we had finished this activity I let her keep the cupcake wrappers we had used to use in her play kitchen.
Set up was quick and easy, I merely wrote numbers on the bottom of the cupcake wrappers and grabbed the Teddy Grahams out of the pantry. Then we set down and worked on number recognition by counting out the appropriate number of Teddy Grahams and placing them into the corresponding cupcake wrapper inside the muffin tin. This activity was a little challenging for her this first time around and she kept wanting to eat her counters but we will give it a try again soon.
Any suggestions for how you teach your children their numbers? Any thoughts on ways to improve this activity? Leave us a comment and let us know.
